Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

You can technically run an 8pin CPU off of just 4pins, Austin Evans among others have done it in the past(myself included).

That said, I wouldn't recommend it. You'd be better off getting a new PSU.

yeah i can confirm, i've done this in budget builds aswell.

just plug the 4 pin plug into the 8 pin connector. it should fit on one side.

that being said tough, i also very much agree that a better PSU is the better solution here.

if the power supply is crappy enough to not have an 8pin connector then don't use that power supply.

He has an G1840, a GTX 560, and some 300w OEM PSU by the looks of his previous posts. So while a new PSU is technically ideal, it's not really worth putting money towards.

Don't bother with adapters unless you want to have exciting fires.

What PSU do you have exactly??

Because those without 8pin I can recall are either ancient, SFF or garbage.

Could you pls make a picture of the Label and post it here?
Do you know how old it is??

I wouldn't. They can get hot. What PSU? If its quality one, you should be fine. But just to note that those splitters are for GPU power, not CPU. So you are better off getting newer PSU than buying splitters for CPU.
