Thinking about upgrading to lga 1366

I have been thinking of upgrading to an lga 1366 processor from my current core 2 duo e4700 but I don’t know what processor and motherboard would be the best value for my money. I’m obviously looking at this old hardware because I don’t have much to spend

Why buy old hardware. Unless you desperately need an upgrade, I'd suggest saving up until you can buy something decent. Old hardware can even turn out more expensive. What's your current budget?

Yes dont look at FFing qaudcores in socket 1366 butt 6 cores. Also those cpus ar new 350 USD than a motherbord for around 100 USD than 8GB of ram for 60 USD or a secendhand X5675 16GB + motherbord for around 250USD ?

X58 is definitely the way to go, I would recommend getting an x58 board from eBay/used and pair it with an x5675 watch a video about it here it is definitely a bang for the buck cpu

How much do you have to spend, and if you don't spend it, how much can you save in a year?

If you can save enough to buy a newer platform, do that instead. X58 is great (it's what I have), but it is not going to continue aging well for long. The biggest impediment is that used motherboard prices in the US are not far off of what they cost when new, so even though the i7 or Xeon processors are cheap, the motherboard+cooling+psu+ram is NOT.

How expensive are the motherboards though? That's usually my experience. The Xeons are dead cheap, but the motherboards aren't.

It's still better not to buy into a dead platform in my opinion, if you can.

Ebay US has the going rate for quality X58 boards in the $150-250 range.

X58 can be fun as an enthusiast. You can get better budget gaming for cheaper-- R5 + B350, for example.

Decent deal then indeed if you can get it for the right price.

I currently have an EVGA GTX 750 graphics card. My current budget is around 200 usd. So that's not enough to buy a current system.

Well you're basically there if you find a deal on this B350 board and find a deal on 8GBs of 2800mhz minimum DDR4

Or deal with used hardware, but I'd probably just go for the simple/easy APU build. the iGPU will be a slight upgrade, basically as fast as the 750ti/GT 1030

Although this is a good choice the Xeon x5675 provides about the preformance of a 6700k and is only 30$ on aliexpress and I’ve seen some x58 boards go for 125-150 and op would still have money left over to buy a better psu Incase the one he has rn is old unless he has upgraded it.

For the same reason you would buy new hardware: you get something that gives you enough performance and a good price to performance ratio.

You may be better served by either new or old hardware, depending on what you want to achieve and what your market looks like.

If you can look local (Craigslist or LetGo for selling sites, FreeGeek, any other local computer store in the US), then I'd recommend going for X58. Just don't purchase a board off the eBay because those are overpriced. You can get board + cpu combos for $100 or less if you look local, and then you can throw on a W3670 or X5660.

Although this is a good idea it is not ideal for op unless he sells his gpu which will be hard, I would still reccomend an x58 Xeon build since he already has a graphics card.

Yea I would recommend buying the parts first and then with the money left over you can buy a new psu.
