All the processes are stopping all the time (HTC One M8, Android)

Dash Lambda

I have an HTC One M8 as stated, can't remember what version of Android but not current, and I have smart launcher. Earlier today it ran out of battery, when I got home I plugged it in, waited a few minutes, then tried to turn it on. It abruptly went dark after the splash screen.

After doing that a couple more times, it got to the friendly animation after the splash screen, stayed there for a few minutes, then went to the boot/update error screen. I restarted it and this time it got into the interface, but there's a never-ending stream of popups saying many different services have stopped that makes it impossible to use and a pain to troubleshoot (Among them is com.google.process.gapps, which I understand is common with M8s). Anyone have any ideas?

I've removed the SIM and SD card, tried restarting multiple times, managed to close all the background apps between popups, and currently it seems to have narrowed down to com.google.process.gapps stopping (where previously it also said photos, play store, etc.), and it pops up again within a second of closing.

EDIT: I managed to do a factory reset (One. Tap. At. A. Time.) and the popups are no longer a problem, now I just have to deal with setup... God, I hate software developers nowadays.
