What monitor size should I get

Hi guys, I want to buy a monitor and I was wondering what size to buy. I need it to connect to my laptop, not pc, but I intend to buy pc in near future(1-2 years).
I want a 1080p monitor, with IPS panel, hdmi(DP optionally for future pc). I am I software engineer(still studying) so I really need more space than 15" laptop screen offers and I also watch a lot of 'HD' content on yt/netflix etc etc. My dilemma is between 23"-25" and 27". Just wanted to know if 27" is too much screen for 1920x1080 resolution and If i choose 27" should I go with 1440p(It is a 25-40% more expensive than 1080p where I live) or is 1080p enough.

depends on your GPU.  if you have a card that can push 1440p,  yeah by all means -- but if you ONLY do 1080p then maybe get a 1080p 144hz monitor instead.

A warning though,  Once u go 144hz,  you don't go back :)

Personally 27" is just a little too big for 1080p. I like 24" better at that resolution..

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

I really dont care about refresh rate so much. 60Hz is enough for me at this point. I dont do a lot of gaming and 140hz monitors are a lot more expensive than 60-75Hz ones. My laptop has gtx 960m so I think it can handle 1440p.

It depends on your space. If you have the space and will be working from a bit further back, then 27" should be fine. For me, I prefer 25" since nothing is in my perfieral vision and nothing is out of focus. As for the resolution, go to somewhere like Best Buy and see if you notice the difference, and if so, is it worth the additional cost to you.

even 24 inch the pixels are really big, i would never buy a 27 inch 1080p screen,

screenspace is really not determined by the monitor size, it's determined by the resolution.

i don't think i could ever go back to having my main screen 1080p

Thanks for the advice guys. Just to throw this in: http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-25UM58-P-ultrawide-monitor
What do you think about this, is it a good choice considering what I said? Never had any experience with ultra wide monitors.

my 2 main monitors are a 34 inch 3440x1440 ultrawide and a 32 inch 4k monitor, gotta say love them both, ultrawide is amazing until you use it with something that doesn't support it correctly then it's the most annoying thing ever, overall i think it is just a little too overpriced for what you get. better off getting 2 monitors

Everything else aside from gaming I would do 1440 as a 25 or 27. 1080 I would do 23-24.
