Im looking to build my first computer and i have to decide between the 8700k (possibly the new intel CPU if one is released at computex) or the 2700. I want to do some streaming but i will also be doing school work on this computer. I watched Gamers Nexus' Video on the better performance of streaming on the 2700 but he also said this was right out of the gate rather than optimizing OBS for streaming. My main question is for streaming with OBS optimized would the 2700 or the 8700 work better for my need. Im planning on getting a Strix 1080ti and a 144hz monitor if those are also factors.

I personally would get the 2700 to have the extra cores and threads.

So there are videos on this but typically the 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads will help with streaming, as you have 4 cores 8 threads to game, and 4 cores 8 threads to stream. Also due to the larger cache, and multi core speed, tests show that overall there is less dropped frames. I just went from a 1700x to a 2700x and even though its a slight performance increase I am enjoying it. Also I have built a 8700k rig for a friend who streams, and sometimes he runs into issues I don't in terms of frame stuttering (although this could be correlated to other differences in our builds). No matter which way you go they will both get the job done

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

Edit: benchmarks for streaming

Both will get the job done. Since streaming benefits from more cores and threads (encoding is a demanding task) the 2700 will have an advantage over the 8700k. Then again – the i7 has higer IPC so per core the i7 is better. I'd expect slightly better gaming performance with the i7 yet overall while streaming a more stable performance from Ryzen. Differences won't be that big though.

I'd just go with the better deal you can get your hands on.

Also keep in mind, the AM4 motherboards probably will last longer and will be compatible with the next gen Zen.
