We have no definitive proof when next gen cards are dropping, although the general understanding is that they'll arrive in Q3 2018 at earliest.

What GPU do you have right now?

Also, how much does a GTX 1080Ti cos for you right now where you live?

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

In my opinion it really depends on your current one, if you can play the games you want at a decent framerate then you might aswell wait a few months.

Ok. To be totally honest with you, the GTX 1180 is rumored to cost the same amount as a 1080Ti.

So, if you absolutely need more performance (which is what I'm guessing is happening) then maybe a GTX 1080 right now or a Vega 56/64 would be a good idea. I only bring up the Vega 56 because of the GPP and Nvidia's anti-competitive behaviour going on. I know the Vega 56 is slower than the GTX 1080 but honestly if Vega 56 is too slow for you then the GTX 1080 is also too slow for you.

It should be able to handle esports games at 1440p like rocket legaue, csgo, league, etc.. So it comes down what you want to play, is med-low settings enough if you play demanding games, i would wait if you think about buying a 1080 because you can and not because you can't run the game you want to.

The references card are alright if you're fine with the GPUs being hot. You can fix the temps by applying a pretty aggressive fan profile but it'll be somewhat loud.

personally, i waited 6 months or more to buy my system, worst thing i've ever done... I was gonna buy for about 550$CAD a 1070 zotac before all the mining craze came, told myself i might just have to wait after christmas for the prices to drop... what a bad decision... so now we are later, i decided to buy a 1080 since i was tired of waiting, paid about 800$CAD which is close to msrp if you convert USD msrp to CAD (659$ USD = about 820$ CAD, gtx 1080 g1 gaming as stated in a LTT video)

In my opinion, and the opinion of some youtubers, If you want it and need it NOW, buy it NOW, get the best deal, if you don't mind waiting some more (up to a year) then wait.

Nobody knows how much it will be next week, maybe 400$CAD maybe 1200$CAD (how much it was here not long after christmas)

And ask yourself, Do i really need to play gtaV ultra at 100+fps? is your monitor 144hz? Is the earth going round the sun? Is my mousepad big enough to fit my keyboard, mouse and doritos bag?

Don't just listen to me since i HAD to upgrade, my only other gaming rig is i7 6700hq, GTX960m Lenovo y700, so for rocket league on the go its perfect... for 1h30 to 2 hours without the power supply, but i NEEDED to know what it was to get 100+fps in any games NOW, so i probably overpaid my whole system about 500$CAD, but if you are like my dad, you are able to wait for years before buying LOL.

Hope this was helpful!

You could buy a Sapphire aftermarket Vega card. But otherwise, the GTX 1080 isn't a bad product.

Do you want to start playing Games? Buy what's available today.

Can you go 2018 without gaming and waiting, and watching lets plays? Then wait.

Simple as that. ^^
