8700K VS 2700X

I was watching a twitch streamer with 8 other people, and as of now, he has a 7700K and a 1080TI. He get very low FPS while streaming the game Squad, around 30-60 FPS with a lot of drops.

 

He was considering an 8700K clocked at 5GHz, with a Z370-E motherboard and 360MM radiator, but that would cost $1077 AUD.

 

I told him about the Ryzen 7 2700X, and how it's cheaper with more cores and threads.


What do you think?

I'd probably go with the 2700X on a budget, otherwise go with the 8700k

If he wants to encode with his CPU, then Ryzen is the best option, If he uses the h.265 encoder on his GPU or CPU then Intel is the better option. I switched from a 1700 to an 8700k because I couldn't stand the low FPS and instability any more. The 2700x has better clock speeds, but I don't think it'll even come close to the 8700K.  In battlefield 1 my FPS with Ryzen @3.8GHz between 70-130, with the 8700k I'm getting between 115-155 at 1440p. 

 

 

To sum it up... If he wants the best possible quality without losing gaming performance he either needs to get a Ryzen CPU or have a second system just for encoding.  IF he want's the best possible gaming performance while using the built in encoder in his GPU, then Intel is the better option.

I am gonna say this, if he wants to stream + play games on the same machine at the same time, then the 2700x should suffice, and should be cheaper too since it includes an adequate box cooler, and the am4 platform is cheaper

In terms of price/performance either go with the Intel 8700 (non-K) or the Ryzen 2700/2700x. You can overclock both Ryzen chips, but not the non-K Intel chip. The K version has a huge price premium that does not justify the extra 10 fps in my opinion.

No reason to invest in any of those. If he has a 7700k then just build a dedicated streaming rig for much cheaper. Or use NVENC, for those games that eat to much CPU power, problem solved.

Not to forget the extra money on cooling for the k sky, you can cool and maintain the 8700 with just a 140mm aio

He was using NVENC, and his GPU was at 10450mb memory usage. His 1080ti was bottlenecked.

i dont know what his settings are, but if i stream 1080p60 NVENC uses ~150MB VRAM. I guess his problems are somewhere else. 

Sounds like a memory leak somewhere :P

Yeah, I can stream 1080p/60 to Twitch using my 1080 non-Ti using NVENC without any problems.
