Which cpu and gpu is best combo ror 1440p, 144Hz gaming?

8700K and 1080ti of course would be the best

but perhaps you can overclock this cpu more Intel Core i7-7740X at 4.3GHz stock or the 7700K at 4.2Ghz

Newer is better so go for the 8700K

or maybe an AMD Threadripper

But Intel is better for gaming.

For 144Hz gaming you would want an i7 8700K paired with a 1080ti as its the best for high frame rate gaming at the moment.  The 7700K and 6700K can do the job but not as well due to having 2 cores and 4 threads less as well as not overclocking well.  Threadripper is pointless for gaming as the R7 2700x plays games better, but still not as well at high refresh rates as the 8700K.

 

Also ignore the i7 7740X, because it; overclocks as well as a 7700K (not that well in other words), has far more expensive motherboards and most of the motherboard can't actually be used due to it not having enough PCIe lanes.
