Using Windows Xbox app and getting poor mic quality

I'm playing fortnite on PC and using the windows 10 xbox app to talk with friends who play on the Xbox.

Using discord etc my mic is fine but when I use the xbox app party function it sounds like I have a fan next to the mic. It must be very annoying to the people in party with me.

 

I can't work out what's causing it. I have a blue yeti whiteout and as mentioned above it works fine on discord and skype.

 

Has anybody came across this problem before?

use xbox beta, for some reason its more stable and has less issues than the main app
