cooler master V550 is an okay choice?

Yes

Could you guys recommend some budget friendly PSU that wont blow up your PC?

Planning system build:

i3 8100

8GB of RAM

1TB HDD

1 250GB SSD

1 PCIE wifi card

I cannot find corsair CX series on local website.

So is there any other PSU I should consider?

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

No graphics card? Just nab a power supply from a dell or HP consumer PC. They're cheap, safe, and reliable. They'll be more than enough, even if you later decide to throw in a 1050

Even 430w is overkill for that. I'd be comfortable with that power supply with OP's rig and a GTX 1070

That's just an ancient and overpriced PSU with lacking protections.

EVGA corsair (no cx series) coolermaster superflower.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Oh god, no.

That thing is almost 10 Years old without any useful refresh.

No, you should rather not buy that.

Its loud, group regulated and has many protections lacking...

Its essentially a lowest cost unit with a bit of Lipstick on.

And Group regulated units aren't the best idea since Haswell because newer power saving things stress the PSU more and group regulated units will go out of spec under those circumstances.

No, he can go better, not higher.

Quality >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quantity.

If his system only uses 250W then the best 300W PSU is the best Idea.

But since the good stuff starts at 400-450W, thats where he has to start.

And the first thing to do would be getting a PSU that regulates +5V independently from +12V and does not need any load on any rail (as long as one of the three major rails is loaded, it doesn't matter wich one).

Because the unit is so old...

And being old does not make it good, PSU ain't no wine, they become obsolete over time get from Decent/OKish to garbage.

Dude, even I stopped recommending it shortly after the newer revisions of the CX came out. The S12 was produced when I was in elementary school...

No, find a modern unit that isn't group-regulated to start with. The Focus Gold or Bitfenix Formula are better picks for not much more money,

You're not really going to find anything good under $58 USD most of the time if you have to toss the CX. This isn't bad though.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Depends on what we are talking about.

If we are talking about a high end Server/Workstation Design with like 4 Caps parallel on +12V or more or a low cost, group regulated unit with just an CLC Filter.

The point is that things change and what the PSU has to do as well.

10 Years ago we just had rather rudimentary power saving mechanisms for the CPU, graphics cards were either just introduced or just not there. They dindn't really have any good power saving features.

In the last 5 years or so, the power saving meachanisms became more agressive and thus the stress the PSU had to endure increased a lot.

And today some GPUs have peaks of 40-50A for only a couple of ms.

Yeah, but that is a high end/Server Design.

The worst one of the bunch (850 + 1000W) has double mag Amp design, so is independently regulated and has a couple of caps in parallel. Can't really say for sure because the pictures I could find on the Internet aren't great.

The 1200W is really intresting because it already has DC-DC and also a couple of capacitors on +12V (I think its like 4 or 5 on +12V) and also some Polymer Capacitors.

That's a totally different thing than a cheapish, group regulated design from 10 Years ago.

None of the TPQ were designed/made to be cheap or probably even sold to consumers.

Cooler Master V-Series.

Super Flower Leadex

Focus from Seasonic

In that order I'd look.

EVGA I don't like because even people like me who are interested in PSU Stuff have no idea what they are doing and if most of their lineup is OK or not.

EVGA doesn't really have any decent budget units. Corsair Vengeance? The Masterwatt (not MWE or Lite) is alright. The Leadex silver is sometimes available at okay prices.

How about the Pure Power 10 400W?

:)
