Intel Coffee Lake vs Meltdown and Specter

Go to solution Solved by SpaceGhostC2C,

Yes, Coffee Lake is affected by it.

Should you be concerned? Well, it is a security hole, yet it is not the kind of hole that any script kiddie will be able to exploit on anyone and everyone visiting their dubious website or similar. You are more likely to suffer from performance losses caused by the eventual patch than from actual security breaches.

Ultimately, I think the main concern for consumers regarding Meltdown and Spectre is what it may imply for servers and datacenters, either because they are more likely to be subject to targeted attacks and handle our data, or because of the performance hit they may get patching it. In both cases, not something you can control with your purchase decision.

Finally going with intel coffee lake as my first gaming PC and recently this year there was an announcement of the meltdown and spectre. As a gamer only should I be concerned with it? And are the coffee lake line up affected by it. Been under the rock for quit some time and not up to date with the intel side news. :/

Nope. It only affects those who do a lot of virtualization. So major datacenters are the ones that got hit very badly, with up to 15% less performance per CPU.

As a gamer, you won't notice it at all.

honestly as a gamer, I wouldnt worry to much personally.. these types of exploits would be used for gains and attacks against corporations and companies to steal information thats usable and valuable. Individual users.. yes you are vulnerable, but likely wont ever be targeted.

Don't worry about it, performance impact is very small.

Coffee lake is affected, it won't be until next generation until there is a hardware fix.
