PC building traditions or general things you do!

AdamPerez

I think it'd be interesting if we listed things we do when building PC's like things you consider good practice!
One of my biggest things is leaving my side-panel off until I know it boots up!

Keep my finger on the power button on the PSU during first bootup so I can react if something sounds wrong.

Post it outside the case

That's about it. Rather see if the parts work before I assemble it.

Yeah, I do that too but I always keep the side panel off for first boot as is tradition.

I'm seeing a lot of recurring ones, does anyone have any weird ones for example like "Hold left nut/Chesticle on first boot"

I always make sure I have something ghetto in my system. In my P4/9800GT rig, the HDD is just laying on the floor of the case. In my current rig, I drilled holes in the Core 1000 for more places to zip-tie cables.

1. Side panels off!

2. Keep a POST speaker handy...

3. If no POST speaker available, look at the screen...

4. Hands on the PSU switch if something wrong.

5. Use ALL the cable ties provided... NO CABLES MUST BE VISIBLE, at least on my opinion...

hands on the PSU switch sounds like a bad idea to me. What if your PSU bursts into flames?(yes this can happen) youll get burned.... probably safer to have hand on the plug at the wall

1. External post

2. Internal post with basic hardware

3. Always keep both side panels off when first boot

4. I've saved cable management for last no matter when in the build

5. I was listening to Raider/good Dubs when building so that'll probably continue

Can't think of much more right now, it might come to me later

keep an old vga crt ( Samsung syncmaster) in case I need the vga output for diagnosing boot issues.
