Alright so I have a problem with my CPU and GPU. I'm getting really low frame rates on games but my CPU/GPU aren't even stressed. In fact, they never go over 30% load. For example, when I'm playing League of Legends, I literally get 40 fps and my GPU is at 20%, CPU at 15%. I'm sure that with more load I could get more fps?

Specs:
CPU: 6850K

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080

RAM: DDR4-3200 32GB

PSU: AX860i

Monitor resolution: 3440x1440

I play League of Legends on max settings at 3440x1440, but regardless, it's such an easy game to run and yet I'm only getting 40 fps when my CPU and GPU aren't even at 30% load, when I have a 1080? I feel like I'm being trolled by my own hardware or something lol.

Yup, that's League of Legends for you. What clock speed is your CPU at?

My CPU idles at around 1.2GHz, playing League it varies, hovering around the area 3.5GHz, which is still less than my CPU's base clock (which is 3.6GHz for the 6850K). When playing it only reaches 40-50 degrees celsius so I doubt that it's reducing clocks because of temperature.

Also, it doesn't tend to be just League. I don't think I've ever seen my GPU over 40% load. My CPU has gone to above 90% though, when I'm rendering some editing projects.

Yeah I didnt think it was underclocking, I just wanted to know current clock speeds. It seems League really likes very fast single CPU cores, so you may want to overclock and see if you can get at least one or two cores at something like 4.1 to 4.2 Ghz. I bet if you did that you'd see a huge jump in framerate.

Well League is not a demanding game by any stretch... Back in high school, I used to laugh at the kids who say they need a dual GTX 680s and an Extreme Edition to play League. That game runs fine on a Sandy bridge i5 with integrated graphics.

Have you checked CPU load for individual cores? It might be that some are used to max but others aren't at all.

Also, try reinstalling graphics drivers

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I don't play a lot of games. Before, it used to be in every game. Now a few games, almost magically, fixed themselves. I didn't do anything. Just one day I started getting the frame rates I expected for one game. Then maybe a few days later another game would also start working fine.

Definitely not, so the fact that my 1080 can't even pull 100 fps is kind of depressing :(

Will try checking CPU load for individual cores. I already tried reinstalling my graphics drivers to no avail.
