SATA hdd in a SAS backplane

i have a dell r710, i would like to put a 2.5 SATA hdd in it but it is not being detected, i believe it supports both sata and sas drives

this could be literally anything..

 

- coming from a person who just clocked in a third day of getting two SSDs to detect in a server...

3 questions.

 

Which RAID controller do you have?

Does the HDD show up in the RAID controller bios?

What capacity is the hard drive you put in?

 

For some random info information...

  • you can not put SAS drives and SATA drives in the same array.
  • The Perc 6i does not support drives greater than 2TB.
  • Yes a SAS back plane will support SATA.
