Thanks! I'll try that later. I wasn't sure why i set the Oc to 3.4, but someone already corrected me with this. hopefully i can oc it without making my PC a toaster xD

Will you get another cooler for your chip?

I have now changed PCs with my wife, and I set it back to stock for her. But long as you have good air flow in your case you could run 3.8 easy on stock cooler.

If you are able to go higher I would suggest a aftermarket cooler. I like the Cryorig range of coolers, the cooler depends on the case clearance. My Ryzen is in a InWin 303 case and can only fit a 160mm tall cooler so 212 or Cryorig H7 would do the trick.

There is a hand full of videos on youtube on how to overclock, thats what i watched to get all the correct settings for the R5 1600

I recently bought a Ryzen 5 1600 and Gigabyte AB350m gaming mobo and i'm really happy with the decision i made. I choose Ryzen because of its features and the cost as well. It's also advertise as a overclock capable chip. With that said, I'm not actually an overclocker enthusiast but i know the do's and don'ts of it, and with the research i made i'm pretty sure that i can do a basic OC on CPU.

My concern right now is, i was able to dial up the CPU to 3.4 on default voltage, but i'm kinda afraid to tweak more because i always monitor the temps of it. My chip always hover around 35-40% on idle and 50-65+ % on load(gaming most of the time)

Question is:

1. With the included cooler, should i push it more? like 3.7 or 3.8 with 1.350 on cpu volts? will it last long?

2. If i can push it more to 4.0, what cooler should i get? AIO or Air Cooler?

3. If i need to replace the default cooler, my ideal aftermarket coolers is, it should last long, like 3-5 years with cleaning maintenance.

My current Build is this:

Ryzen 5 1600 (currently OC to 3.4 @ default voltage)
Gigabyte AB350m Gaming 3
2x4 4GB Ripjaws V (currently OC to 2700mhz at 1.300 voltage, with XMP enabled)
Two 1TB HDDs
DVD Drive
3 Intakes, 2 exhaust fans on Fractal Arc Mini R2
Seasonic M12II Evo Edition 520w Bronze
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB Auorus (+50mhz on core and +100mhz on memory)
Asus VC239H 1080p 23inch monitor

Ryzen 5 1600 | Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 | Team Elite TForce Delta RGB 2x8 16GB 3200mhz | Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB AORUS | Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 | 2 1TB WD Blue | Wester Digital Blue 3D NAND 500GB | SeaSonic M12II 520W 80+ Bronze | CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Led Turbo | ASUS VG248QE | Rakk Kimat XT | Logitech G502 HERO | Massdrop x AKG M220 Pro | V8 Soundcard | BM800 Condenser Mic | Logitech C310

Umm, it's probably faster stock... It boosts to 3.6Ghz on its own so locking it to 3.4Ghz will actually decrease your performance.

I would go to stock and do some tests first so you have an idea if the overclocking actually makes it faster.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I never thought of that. haha.. I just started last week on overclocking it. I'll take your suggestion and test it out.

I would get a decent air cooler like the hyper 212 evo etc and try from that point. Max Voltage is 1.4 with temps in range of max 80C. Also get some faster ram. Ryzen will benefit hard from high speed ram with tight timings.... In my case i got 15% plus increase just for going with 3200Mhz at CL14.

I was able to get 3.8ghz at 1.33v on the stock cooler with no problem. I cant remember the temps, but after running Prime95 for 10mins the temps didnt worry me.

CPU ~ i7 8700k @ 5.0ghz 1.285v | Motherboard ~ Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 | Cooler ~ CoolerMaster ML360R (With Corsair ML120 fans)

Do you think AIO is ideal for my chip and motherboard? which is a b350 chipset only?

If you have decent airflow in your case yes. AM4 VRMS get very hot during OC. A 240 rad would be plenty ;)

Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it :)

I'll try to OC to 3.8 and check for stability. Hopefully my stock cooler don't break xD
