Hey there!

I'm building my first PC and I'm not sure which power supply to get

so far I've bought

  • 16gb ddr4 ram
  • MSI GeForce 1050ti
  • an old cooler master mid tower case (from my old pc)

I'm planning to buy

  • Core i5 8400
  • A compatible Coffee Lake motherboard once the cheaper ones come out (B360m if Gigabyte has it otherwise the next next cheapest one with dual bios)
  • Samsung 850 EVO 500gb (this is all the space i'll need. i have a 2TB external hard drive for other storage)

Right now I've been considering the Corsair CX550M 80 Plus Bronze semi modular and the Cooler Master MWE 500W.

Please help :S

CX550M (grey label) is a good PSU for the price.

The CM MWE should be a renamed export unit that's familar to us, but since there's no conclusion on what the exact model it was, better not use it. Units with 3 years of warranty are usually no good (5 years or above units should be fine), which doesnt give the MWE any support either.

Tier 3 or above in the list are good.

Hey,

I’ve almost got the same pc! I’ve got the seasonic m12i, really Good psu to build with in my opinion.

M12ii uses an outdated group regulated design. Not bad enough to be a fire hazard or kill components, but I advise against buying one now.

I'd highly recommend skipping a Coffee Lake non-K CPU and getting a Ryzen counterpart. You can get a 1600 for a fair bit cheaper than that 8400 plus you can get a cheaper board, especially if you don't plan to OC.

A CX550M is a good choice, yes.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

yeah, but the 2k Series comes out like next months and will have around 300MHz more clock for around the same price...

The problem might be the BIOS of the old Motherboard...

And that its still around 4-6 Weeks away....
