Hi, I am having troubles with overclocking my new 1800x that i got on Monday, i tried overclocking it by 200MHz on 1.36875v and it crashed as soon as i ran cinebench, i later tried a 50Mhz @ 1.3v and 1.35v overclock to see if i could overclock at all and that also crashed... im sorta new to overclocking so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard: ASRock x370 killer sli
PSU: Bequiet system power 8 600w
Cooler: Bequiet dark rock pro 3
Ram: Corsair LPX ddr4 2666MHZ 2x4GB
GPU: GTX 960 2GB

How about giving 1.4V?

1.4 seems a bit high to get a extra 50MHz ill test it in a min tho

That's kind of odd. Even the lower binned non X sku's can manage 3.8GHz with relative ease. Try something like a 100MHz overclock with 1.38v as that is way more than enough for that little of an increase. If it works, slowly start raising the overclock while leaving the voltage where it is to the point where it crashes. Then, knock it down to the last overclock that was stable.

+1 this is probably the most effective method and works for many people

3.7Ghz @ 1.38V is still crashing, it gets into windows fine it just crashes a few seconds after starting a cinebench test

I would think an 1800x should hit 4ghz at 1.375, unless you got super unlucky.

What are your temps looking like? Maybe you're overheating somewhere.

 I think its fine, it’s 40c at idle according to ryzen master and speedfan, under load speed fan and aida 64 are reporting 59 but ryzen master is reporting 75

Does the CPU turbo as much as it should when at stock settings? Or does it throttle or crash there? XFR should push at least one core to 4.1ghz for you.

On this board i cant even find the XFR settings but from what i can tell by looking at CPU-Z clocks, No it doesn't turbo

I've noticed that the bios and ryzen master are saying insanly high temps, the bios says that its 75c just when i boot up the pc at stock speeds and voltage even though i have a dark rock pro 3 and im using mx4 paste

Even with the temperature offset that seems really high at idle. Make sure everything is seated correctly, fans spinning, etc. 

I would also put a straight edge (ruler or t-square or something) against the IHS and heatsink just to make sure one isn't crazy warped. Maybe you're having a contact problem.

I managed to fix it now, reseated the ram and CPU cooler and now im able to reach 4GHz at the stock voltage.
