So today i picked up my old laptop after a year. I have noticed it has slowed down . it is not a high end laptop it is an Intel i5 -3337u with 4 gb ram and a gt 750m 2gb . is there any software to check what is running in background , cause i had a lot of junk loaded on it. Also how shall i do driver updates and is bios update possible ? Is there any way to make it somewhat new. I will attach some screenshots also if it helps. Ask for any additional info if needed . Also my preferred search engine always changes to the one given below , i need to clean other viruses like that too.

Install a clean version of Windows 10. It'll sort the drivers automatically.

Don't update the BIOS unless you actually NEED to.

Why not? It's faster, gets better/more updates and it's easier to use. People are still stuck in 2015 to the idea that Windows 10 is Microsoft's spying tool. You can turn all those features off.

There are several programs to change the look and feel of 10. I made my Windows look a bit more darkish with an Aero theme to it.

The "unnecessary" tasks are called "Microsoft Windows".  Your OS takes up resources.  They aren't unnecessary.  2.4GB is actually slightly lower than normal.  Some of the memory must be compressed, because it normally takes up 3GB+.

That definitely isn't true.  Each update is giving you less control.  I work in IT.  I also went to a Microsoft seminar a few weeks ago and they were pretty clear about the insane amount of data they take and catalogue.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

Hey can you suggest a way to clean up pc without reeboting. Some software that can kill the viruses and manage background processes. Thnaks.

As stated before, the amount of RAM taken up is pretty normal for any modern full OS. If you want more usable RAM, get an upgrade, or get a different OS. Any decent anti-virus will clear out your system if there are viruses. If you have a hard drive, de-fragment it, and if you can afford to get an ssd, do so. I have a Lenovo ideapad with the exact same specs save for the GPU and that thing flew after putting in 8 GB of RAM and a 250GB ssd.

Daily Driver: Redmi Book Pro 14 - Core Ultra 7 155H | 32GB/1TB

Primary Desktop: NCase M1 - Ryzen 7 7800X3D/RX 6950XT | 32GB/2TB

Travel PC: Fractal Terra - Ryzen 7 5800X/RTX 3060 Ti | 16GB/1TB

I have too many computers. List here.

He could drop down to a 32-bit OS like i accidentaly installed ok my laptop.(from the same generation btw)

Its mostly a clean install with only neccesities and idles on startup at 1,2 GB RAM

OP just reinstall the OS. Its the simplest you can do. You can do it with programmes but it wont be as good.

Just get Win 10 32-bit if the ram issue is so bad. Thats what ive got and it works.

More advanced stuff gies for changing the HDD to an SSD and doubling the amount of RAM.

if you really want to do it through software. CCleaner might help and Malwarebytes. This probably wont make your pc much quicker or quicker at all, again reinstall the OS

I'm not surprised to be honest.

Just reinstall Windows 8.1. Your choice. You can grab a clean copy from Microsofts site using the Windows 8.1 Media Creation Tool. Then just format and reinstall. Windows should get all the drivers automatically after running Windows update.
