Super cheap PC for a freind

I have a freind, she wants a PC only for like web browsing

So i looked into the raspberry pi zero, realized it only had 1 core and decided to build a P4 machine, parts were crazy expensive

 

So ive reached a block, whats the cheapest PC i could possibly get for her? Would a SBC work?

100 percent would recommend a Chromebook.

Chromebook if you want new.

 

Refurb off ebay, or used off craigslist or something would be the cheapest though.

Don't even think about building something like a P4 machine. That is such outdated tech, even the cheapest of today's chips would run circles around anything that old.

 

What is the price point? Chromebook isn't a bad idea at all, but you can't build something cheap enough? I have built pretty dang cheap PC's for people in the past...

I just put together a build on newegg, 128GB SSD, 4 GB of RAM (little low, but something like fedora will work fine for web browsing with 4 GB of RAM.... and you can always slap another stick in later), i3 G3900, case, EVGA PSU... all for $260 after tax and shipping.

 

Is it the fastest thing ever, no, but it would be hard to beat that imo.

 

IF you want to go used, maybe look for some early versions of core CPU's, but I just think it will be hard to find that on craigslist. Ebay will have lots of offering though. Can likely make an ebay build for under 100 bucks easy.
