I've made this question again , but just to clarify , i'll ask again with a little twist.

I have the gtx 1070 ( a pretty powerfull model ) and the only thing left to finish my build is the PSU

Its gonna be the TXM from corsair , the question is , 550w or 650w ?

in the future most likely im gonna have a dual monitor setup . This will difinitely push my GPU more, so should i go for 650 ?

At this point ive already ordered the 550 one , but i can cancel it (hopefully) if im fast enough.

I would go for the 650 one, but you should be fine with the 550w. With that I mean taht it will run, I would personally still go for the 650watt model if you can afford it and cancel the order/return it when it arrives

Without knowing what other parts you have i'm inclined to say the 550 should be more then enough. 650 would be overkill.

Stressing a GPU more will not increase its Power usage beyond what it is rated for ;)

Overclocking on the other hand will, but i'm going on the minimum info you gave here.

When a 980TI with a 4960X consumes less than 400W, why should he go for the 650W one?!

To waste money?
And don't come with "for the future"!
You don't know anymore about the future than everyone else here because it hasn't happened yet, you can't know anything about that!!!

And chances are that ATX gets replaced sooner rather than later with its almost 25 Years of age...

1. what

2. I just considered the efficency curve of the PSUs, wich leads to the best efficency around 45-50% usage, and that's what the system would probabyl draw. also a benefit of a higher wattage psu is that it's (most of the time) quieter. I'm not telling what to buy I just give a reccomendation thats build on my personal opinion

Well OK, let's assume his PC consumes 325W under load.

TX550M and TX650M efficiency data: https://www.cybenetics.com/code/pdf.php?id=YQI https://www.cybenetics.com/code/pdf.php?id=R7M

When TX550M draws ~325W, it draws 368W from the wall. TX650M draws 360W.

That's 8W difference, and assuming he's gaming 4 hours daily, and the cost of kWh is 12.68 cents (USA average), then after a whole year he will save 1 dollar and 48 cents.

TX650M is louder than TX550M at 325W load.

The 550W has double what a typical 1070 system will draw. You're fine.

Having two monitors doesn't push your GPU any harder than having one. Your idle power draw will mostly come from how much power your monitor draws. Your GPU will only have like .5% of its resources sapped from it. When gaming, your GPU probably hits 100% doing most games at really high settings at 1080P already.

That's not how that works for all PSUs, and varies depending on topology, time period where it was made, etc. It's not really even something worth mentioning when buying a PSU.

No, that is wrong.

Its like 30-70%

That is just a fairy tale wich has no real basis in facts, if we talk about the same unit.

How the hell should two PSU with the same design, the same Heatsinks and about the same efficiency be any quieter?

That's just bullshit that violates the laws of thermodynamics!!

Most of the times, the higher wattage is not quieter under any circumstance!

That only might be the case if we talk about two completely different units - like be quiet Dark Power Pro P10 or P11, 550-750W vs. 850-1200W.

But with the same design, the same layouts, not so much.
