hi,

That option is probably forced by a policy. After some searching i found this.

1. Press windows key + R... type regedit and press enter.

2. Go to path : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\DataCollection

3. Change AllowTelemetry DWORD to value 1 if it isnt already.

By the way are you using windows 10 home or pro?

Edit: "this setting is managed by your organisation" yea... This is just a local policy Microsoft applied at your machine. They are abusing system admin tools to lockdown your own system. Sounds fair. xD

Is this your very own computer, on your very own network, or are you fucking around on a school computer?

When you joined the Insider Preview program, Microsoft made it clear that full telemeter data collecting (and potentially more than normal) will be enabled.

If you are not happy with this, you need to get out of the insider preview as you clearly don't agree with the terms and condition you previously agreed upon when joining.

<snippy>

This how the program works, you get the full use of the Most Current Inside Features and Updates and Microsoft gets the usage information to help determine bugs, issues and everything else relevant to you testing the the OS for them... you volunteered and you agreed to this when you signed up.

If you made the mistake of thinking this was a free ride for a free OS ...  then well Surprise!  you swallowed the wrong pill.

If you want control of the OS purchase the license, OEM is $99 USD and Non-OEM is $198 USD.

I used to be a participant in the Insider Program as well (early 2015-2017). That's a part of the TOS. I only agreed because Windows 10 was (initially) a decent OS, and worth the telemetry-collecting (to a small extent). The initial update to Windows 10 was pretty good (and showed that MS had been paying attention). But, with the recent lackluster quality I've been seeing in the most recent updates (especially with some of the most recent bugs I've been seeing), I'm glad to have left that program behind. It's as if they aren't testing nearly as thoroughly as they used to. And the Insider Program doesn't appear to be changing that. It's sad to say, the Insider Program isn't worth joining anymore (unless you're a die-hard Windows guru who needs to stay up-to-date). Otherwise, just pop the Insider Preview(s) onto a VM and test with some better peace-of-mind, knowing that:

  • Microsoft won't get anything meaningful from a temporary VM (if you know what you're doing)
  • The Insider Preview won't screw up your stuff if it breaks - just a temp VM :)

The glory days of Windows 10's initial glow are over. Back to the mundane torture of working with Windows OS...

Oh forgot to mention... you could try what Jarno suggested... you'll get to enjoy it for a moment. Then it will enable itself later on, weather you restart your computer or not. Basically, it will revert back and pop-up a warning that you are outside of the Insider Preview until you hit "Fix me" button which will revert the setting.
