Why are the Google Icons so ugly on s9

Hello

So today i got my new Galaxy s9 plus. So far im happy with it. But the google icons as well as some others like the Philips Hue Icon just look ugly af. I already disabled the icon borders in the settings, which i think also worked as you can see with the "20 Minuten" icon. But some didnt change. I use Nova Launcher, so maybe there is a setting to change it?

Use an icon pack? I use the Evie launcher with a Pixel IP on my S6 and it's awesome. Looks much nicer than stock touchwiz (especially since the older versions were hella ugly, newer ones are closer to stock android).

This is a feature called adaptive icons. You can change the shape in the look and feel section.

Without using a skinpack or manually changing each one, I doubt it. This is the direction that google wants to go and on devices running Android Oreo or a launcher that ported the feature (E.g. Nova here) will pull the adaptive icon instead. In nova you can long press an app and replace the icon individually though.

Oh okay :( Do you maybe know an icon pack that includes those "old" icons, so that i can replace them as you said? Thanks!

This might be the theme you're wanting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.EvoHD.M&hl=en

Disclaimer: I think these are stock but I've been using adaptive icons for a while so idk.

Yeah definitely find an icon pack you prefer.  I use "Smoke and Glass" in Nova Launcher on my Note 8 and I love it.  But of course they are very stylized icons that probably wouldn't be your cup of tea but there are literally an endless number of icon packs available so surely you would find something to your liking?  Great part about Android is customizing everything to look just how YOU want it to look.  I think even the stock Samsung theme packs allow for different icons?
