Meets spec?

Go to solution Solved by Liquid_Z,

I'll do my best to answer your question to the best of my ability. No I don't think that you will have a problem running SoT with that CPU.

According to the games requirements: (https://www.pcgamer.com/sea-of-thieves-system-requirements-revealed/)

  • An AMD FX-8150a will run SoT at 1080p @60 fps at medium settings.
  • An Intel Core2 Quad Q9450 will run SoT at 720@30 fps at low settings.

The Athlon X4 845 preforms 25-50% better then a Q9450(1). In fact the 845 has very similar performance to the FX-8150 (2). So I believe it's very possible to play Sea of Thieves at 1080p @60 fps at medium settings. I'm very confident that you'll have a positive experience using that CPU providing more fps then you even initially hoped for.

Additionally to support my claims, I'm providing a Youtube video showing a Phenom II X4 965 processor being used where it seems to keep a frame-rate of 50-60fps. According to benchmarks the Athlon X4 845 runs 6-15% faster then the Phenom II X4 965(3). I think you are more then fine with the CPU you already have. Based on what you've communicated so far, I find no compelling reason that you must sell your cpu and mobo, and upgrade to Ryzen as others have suggested.

I hope you find this information both informative and helpful. Best of luck and happy gaming!

does an AMD Athlon X4 845 match or has better specs than an AMD FX-6300 at 3.5GHz?

heck.

The athlon has two less cores for starters.

The 6300 is a slightly newer architecture so at 3.5 would be slightly faster.

Don't buy a 6300 though, ryzen would be a better choice.

Take a look at this...

Both are not very good in terms of performance so if you want AMD you should go for Ryzen.

Looks like you will be somewhere between low and medium settings.

Expect FPS drops and possible stuttering, as that CPU is more like a Phenom II x4 which is listed for minimum/low settings.
