go for it if you want more power than a 750TI. 750TIs are pretty garbage IMO but i dont think there is a super massive performance difference between the two. if its cheaper then its not a bad choice i guess

Hi,

I'm looking for a really cheap Host GPU to use for PCI-E GPU Passthrough.

Requirements:
* Needs to be fairly efficient/Not consume too much power ( < 100w is preferable)

* Needs to work well on Ubuntu using the Open Source Drivers

* Needs to support HDMI 1.4

* Needs to be less than £100

* Can't be an RX 480 cos that will be the GPU passed to the Windows VM for gaming and stuffs.

I've seen some GTX 750Tis at around £30-50 but I'm not sure how well it's supported under Ubuntu with open source drivers.

Thanks guys.

Do 750Tis work fine under the Nouveau drivers on Ubuntu?

If this article is anything to believe, a 1030 should do the trick but not with nouveau drivers

From what I can gather this is pretty hit or miss, you'd be luckier with older GPU's

RX550? The open-source drivers should be somewhat decent. Not exactly super cheap tho.

never tried them, but my 660s seemed fine, my 8800GT seemed fine and my 1050TI worked fine. you wont have all the features and peformance of the NVIDIA drivers but they work

What about something like a used R7 260X? Would that be a better choice than thee 750Ti?

draws more power, performs a bit better iirc. depends on if thats what you need, never tried any AMD cards on Linux but from what i have heard the open source drivers are better because AMD are open about stuff compared to NVIDIA or something

It should work fine, older cards are generally not a problem.

But may I introduce you to the wonderful world of Arch Linux? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

For a placeholder I'd go for the 750ti, if only due to its very low power draw.
