So amazon sent me an openbox power supply when I wanted to buy it new. My computer was perfectly fine and running well before I switch but when I switch, the computer got fried as I believe there is blown capacitors in the unit. From what I have seen in recent days, amazon is accepting fake/bad units without properly checking them when their other users return anything and I am not too sure if that could have happened to me. I have tried contacting them but they refuse to answer anything and tell me to return the one unit that can prove it damaged my computer. What can I do at this point? Cases like these are too small for any proper lawsuits, am I correct?

Dude, this sucks, sorry to hear about it.

@Damascus has the right idea. Small claims court is free up to a point.

I would call a office for hiring lawyers. Most of the time they will allow you to ask a few questions for a few minutes without trying to charge you for anything.

It is very unlike amazon to have bad customer support, I’ve gotten refund for items many times that have come damaged and I got to keep the damaged item so I uselly sell them for parts if I can’t fix it my self.

I buy stuff on amazon almost daily so it’s not uncommon for stuff to come damaged when you order enough stuff.

amazon has the best support out of any computer I’ve ever personally delt with

but if the PSU damaged your PC it would surly damaged another so if you send it in they can’t test that to see if your telling the truth.

I don't think they're going to be liable. They will replace the part that's defective, but you're likely SOL for the rest of the system.

If you received an open box, and you'd ordered a new one, you shouldn't have accepted it at all. You should have, at the very least, contacted Amazon and made mention that you received an open box item. This would leave a paper trail. I personally would have returned it. You'd have a hard time in court proving that it's the PSU's fault, and not something you did yourself; you'd have an even harder time proving negligence on the side of Amazon.

I'd try RMAing as many parts of your system as you can. I highly doubt this would be worth pursuing in court.

If the product wasn't fulfilled by Amazon themselves, they pretty much don't claim liability on it. They're just acting as a storefront. If you bought something from a third party or someone not affiliated with Amazon, then trying to go after Amazon is like going after Craigslist for someone selling you a lemon.

If you wanted new and made purchase based on the receipt saying it was new, you shouldn't have accepted product as opened. At that point you have accepted the condition of item. Taking shipping company out of equation and making this about terms/agreement of purchase. If its sold/fulfilled by Amazon, they are responsible to replace faulty unit. If its 3rd party seller, Amazon is out unless there's further issues with handling RMA process or payments.

I'm not that well knowledget on how deep Amazons or even PSU manufacturers policy goes with damage caused for rest of the system. Quality PSUs have already safety system to prevent any damage to rest of the system. I've had blown PSU which didn't cause any harm to rest of the system. And from AIOs I know that only some manufacturers even promise to pay if their units leak and cause damage to rest of the system. This is something that (in my country) is usually under home insurance. If faulty equipment causes damage to other equipment when used accordingly.
