4k 60hz vs 1080p 144hz vs 1080p Ultrawide?

SpencerC

Hello!

I am currently in the market for a new monitor, and have come done between 4 possible products: the LG 25UM56-P, LG 29UM68-P, BenQ Zowie XL24llP, or Sceptre U275W. I am mostly doing stuff like content streaming, video editing, and photo correction work, but I also game on the side a bit (mostly Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, and Overwatch).

Thanks for all of your help!

Ultrawide gets my vote. Support is extremely [good] these days and can easily be manipulated through INI and .bat programs.

I've got basiscly all possible gaming monitors I can think of and Ultrawide is the biggest leap compared to the others. Ultrawide has just so much space and I can get much more done with the extra room and if you like video editing you will enjoy the extra timeline space. (Personally own the LG 29UM67-P, same as 68, really nice monitor but would prefer 32")

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

Since you are mostly doing that then gaming i would recommend ultra wide or 4k. If you where gaming more then i would recommend 144hz.

Having used all three of these I must say for productivity those LG ultrawides are a hell of a deal. 90% of the 34' curved HRR experience for 20% of the price.

don't waste time with low res mediums like 1080 or ultrawides. no reason to buy a monitor thats a lower res than what games consoles output.

Would 4K @ 60hz still feel good in high fps throughput games like Overwatch and Siege?

?

I'm kinda confused here, as most of the consoles on the market today can really only output 1080p 30fps or 60fps if you are lucky. The XBOX One X is doing better though, I will give you that.

Well, tbh 1080p 144hz it's really good if you can keep the frames up. 144hz feels really good, you maybe won't notice the 144hz right away, but when you go back to 60hz you will miss a lot the extra refresh rate. I had a 60hz and happily upgraded to a 144hz one. In my opinion Rainbow Six, Overwatch and R League benefit a lot from the higher refresh rate. Now if you desire fancier looks and maybe do some productivity then go ultrawide, I personally do not recommend 4K, since I'm a fan of high refresh rates and 4K 144hz requires too much hardware to maintain. Try out the 144hz monitor, if you do not like it just return it to the store, most of the reputable tech stores offer a 30-day return policy. :)

EDIT: If you are mostly doing content stuff then ultrawide or a higher resolution might be better, ultrawide would be more beneficial for you, regarding productivity. The problem with high refresh rate monitors is that usually, they lack quality color reproduction. If that is important to you stay away from them. +1 to Ultrawide.
