Liquid metal cooling

If I am uncertain the heatsink material of a gpu (whether or not it's aluminum), is it possible to put LM on the gpu die, put some heat pads on top of that, then the cooler itself on top of that? And is there a way to typically test whether a heatsink is aluminum or nickel?

yep! super easy.  if you put liquid metal on it, and its disolves in 10 minutes, then its aluminum and you shouldnt have done that.

Then there is literally no point of using liquid metal because the heat pads will be the heat transfer bottleneck...

It would perform the same if you just used pads with no liquid metal then.

And thermal pads are even worse than regular thermal paste.
