I tried it, don't even bother running the cheap AMD only RAM on an Intel board. My aunt was lucky though-her old Phenom II rig got an upgrade to 4x 4GB sticks of DDR3 1066 (it was supposed to be DDR3 1600), which was a lot better than the original 2x 2GB DDR3 800 (which had heatspreaders for some reason).

Its actually not.

weird, i never encountered any of issues.

i have been using a kit of 16GB Radeon R9 branded memory on these systems witout any problems:

4670K + H81

4670K + Z87

4670K + Z97

4770K + Z97

4930K + X79

4960X + X79

E5 2670 + X79

E5 2603 + X79

granted, this wasn't a cheapo kit.

DDR3 is DDR3. you can use it in any board that has a DDR3 RAM slot, really.

the intel/amd branding is more of a marketing thing than anyhting else.

THE PCB and SPD may be optimised for AMD but it will work in Intel motherboard.

The only difference is that if the board cant recognise the SPD or has an issue with stability using the settings taken from SPD, it will default to JEDEC spec which is significantly worse but manualy tuning the frequency and timing should work just fine.

We are talking about the dirt cheap AMD only stuff found on sites such as Ebay-it didn't work with my i5 4440 or i7 4790K (regardless of motherboard), and only worked with my Aunt's Phenom II X4.

It'd recognise the capacity and speed but the sticks weren't useable, so it'd only boot with one of my old sticks of RAM installed if used with my Intel desktops

Those are the shitty sticks of RAM the OP and I are referring to.

I have also tried "AMD ONLY" marked eBay RAM. It is high density and will only work with10% of AMD boards. It would not run with my or my friends Intel CPUs. Stay away from it.
