Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

my question is why on earth did they not add two more doors? it would of been perfect then xD

The rigidity of that thing must be terrible lol. Looks hilarious though

I would almost daily it.

i'd totally daily it, if it had a real roof and 4 doors.

Wanted a targa automatic. Got a manual coupe.. But eh. still happy with it xD

i honestly want a targa manual. targa for that open air experience, but a manual, because it's kinda pointless to drive a supra with an autotragic.

so owning a convertible, are you ever worried you might die in a rollover crash because no solid roof?

i mean you can custom fit an v6 into there if you're itching to do it, just create custom mounts for the engine out of plate steel or something like it, because fuck making custom rubber engine mounts.

I would be willing to pay $350, considering it does telemetry and does good editing from the look of it. But $500 is a bit steep. For what is essentially as you put it, a really good dash cam. We're talking GoPro price bracket.

first of all, its 450, not 500

both of you guys also need to take into account that it includes an OBDII dongle and a 10Hz gps module.  a good obdII dongle is $100 and a good 10Hz gps module is $150.  so 450-100-150= $200.  thats the camera cost.  I'd buy this over a gopro in a heart beat.  the real competition to this is the garmin vibe, not gopro

disclaimer:

I have an irrational and unfounded hate towards gopro.  don't ask me why, I don't know.

naw, fuck that, I don't want solid mounts.  I'll take rubber everyday of the week and twice on sunday.

This is only a consideration if V8roadsters does a complete kit.  if I have to do anything custom (aka $$$$$), its not an option.

I have one, AWR double hoop.  in hindsight, I should have went with fabworx's scca approved bar... but I saw the bar up close and I have a hard time paying their price for it.  for 1100 bucks I expect it to be flawless with perfect welds and all the bars fitting together perfectly.  that is simply not the case for the fabworx bar.  welds are sloppy, bars are offset slightly...  Hard dog bars are much nicer (and about half the price), but unfortunately not SCCA approved.

Well yeah but its on preorder. Once they go off preorder, they're $500. I'd be fine without GPS, and I don't know if they're gonna let you use the OBD2 data for anything other than using it to get the camera the speed/gear data.

Its just too much money IMO.

well then plenty of other options for you on the market... but just cause its not what you need doesn't mean its too much money.  Its very fairly priced considering what you're getting

You won't die then if you roll it. Seen plenty of rollovers in Miatas with roll bars (on the internet anyway) and the outcome is usually the driver walking away. A harness would also further ensure you don't go anywhere if you want to go that route...

Also I'm sure the NC handles rollovers way better than the old NA/NB to begin with. (Remember the NB and NA are basically the same chassis, just different design)

So I hope I never roll my car xD

people just don't post about the ones that go bad...  risk with a convertible is still much higher even with a roll bar.  even with a full cage.  big part of it is that its just open, so thing can protrude inside much easier and impale you...

Should never have to change the chain for the life of the vehicle. The tensioner, yes, but at far longer intervals than a belt. Friend of mine had an 02 Matrix XRS with the 2zz, which he drove pretty hard at times. Had well over 300k by the time he sold it and never touched the chain or tensioners.

What car is this, btw?

Not even remotely true at all. I've seen guides break, chains stretch, phasers going out is the most common issue, which you usually do a timing kit while you are there. Diagnosed a lot of 5.4l fords with bad phasers. Oddly enough none of them do the job. They just trade them in. These are all from cars or trucks below 150k.

My car is a 2010 Mazda 3 2.0l which isn't known for timing chain issues. Its the 2.3l that has lots of timing chain issues. But I can hear mine rattle a lot on start up for about a second. Then while its running you hear an inconstant tapping, and when I come off revs it rattles a bit.

Compared to the 2.5l Mazda 6 with 31k on the odometer that was in the shop the other day, my motor is much louder with the noise. I'd do the job because its easy access on my car, but I guess someone decided keyways are too advanced for them and decided to hold the crank sprocket in with friction washers. So when I decide to do it I have to figure out how I can torque the thing without letting it move at all.
