Can I recover corrupt data?

I used Stellar Phoenix Mac Data recovery to recover some of my lost files. Most of them are corrupt. Can I thing about that?

It depends on how bad the corruption is and if there's any sort of error correction data. But generally speaking otherwise, you cannot recover data that's been corrupted.

If parity data exists, yes you can rebuild or recover the data - but in most cases, no, corrupt files won't have parity data on hand.

 

Some types of files can be "reconstructed" from a corrupted file. What this does is more akin to "finding and saving the good bits" of the file, and guessing for the rest. It will never be able to fully recreate the original file, but, say, for a text or word document, it might recover some of the words/text saved.

 

This is why backups are important to have, so that if there is data loss, you simply restore from a backup instead.

Exactly sums up my experiences recovering data from a friend's HDD that was so badly damaged, it didn't even have a filesystem anymore.

 

Op, good luck. There are various programs for each type of files, you'll need to pick one for what you're trying to repair.
