8gb ram only 3.94 available

PadawanAmy

I recently put 8gb ram in my pc and it says 3.94 available, i changed the ram with another and it works.

I put 2 4gb sticks in, 3.94 available.

I put 1 8gb stick in and that works fine.

Why wont the 2 4gb sticks work properly?

1. Reseat both sticks.

2. if you have 4 slots available, try the other two. Also, make sure they are in the correct place.

I had a similar issue with a friends PC and it ended up being bad ram sticks. When I swapped in a spare kit I had it booted up and recognized all 8gb in windows.

try putting in each 4gb stick one at a time to see if one of them is dead?

u may have 32bit windows

This, if you're on Windows 7 then hold down the windows key on your keyboard and press the Pause/Break key (it's usually to the right of the F keys on most keyboards) and look for "System Type" and if it says 32bit then that's the most you can use and will need to install a 64bit version of Windows to use the rest of it. @BenRulez
