When the reference card comes out, how log does it take for the aftermarket ones.

AnalogCanavity

So I currently have a GTX 1070 and I was thinking of getting a GTX 2070 when it comes out, I would want to sell it before the GTX 2070 gets out so it’s still worth something. Also if I pre order the founders edition, I will have a loud crappy cooler, and the only option will be to use the Kraken G12 (or something like it) because I don’t want to do a custom loop and I don’t want one of those ugly aftermarket coolers. So I was wondering how long it would take companies like ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE etc to release the aftermarket cards, because I don’t want to wait to long (because I can’t game). Or do you guys think the cheapness of the founders edition (If it is) will make up for getting a Kraken G12 and 140MM AIO. My specs are below on my signature, if you think there will be bottlenecks.

Thanks

never trust wccfshit they are the clickbait central of tech news. Usually cards with aftermarket coolers gets released 1 to 2 weeks after the release of reference cards and full on custom pcb boards usually gets released atleast month later.

It can vary a bit, it won't be for a week or so before reference PCB custom cooler cards get on sale, and typically could be a month before fully custom ones get sold, it's even longer for the bonkers LN2 overclocking ones go on sale.

Yours faithfully

I waited for about 3 months before the 1080ti started getting aftermarket variants. That's not typical though, so its hard to say.

CPU: Ryzen 5950X Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14 | Graphics: GIGABYTE GAMING OC RTX 3090 |  Mobo: GIGABYTE B550 AORUS MASTER | Storage: SEAGATE FIRECUDA 520 2TB PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 - 1500W | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU & LG C1

Do the aftermarket variants have better performance (excluding the cooling), do they use better memory, capacitors etc. or should I pre order the FE GTX 2070 before miners can get there hands on them, and wait for a aftermarket cooler

Well as others said the custom pcb cards release 1+ month later but most of the time the reference board is actually the best one, and aftermarket coolers with it release faster.

So true it hurts

Yes aftermarket cards with custom PCBs usually have better capacitors, more of them, more phases, higher power capacity on the phase power stages etc. They're usually bigger though. Sometimes they can come with better binned memory or binned GPU cores too.

Is it a big enough proformance increase to wait? What I’m most afraid of is the GTX 1070 losing its value when the next gen comes out, and I don’t want to wait more than 2-3 weeks for the custom PCBs.

Thanks

Is it worth it? Well look at the GTX 1070, and it's reference model, custom cooler reference board and then the fully custom ones. It can be very worth it if you overclock. For me, I rarely touch reference cards because the VRM just sucks usually, unless it's really expensive to get an after market one.

Yours faithfully
