My only goal is to get 27 inch 144hz monitor with a display port under $350 CAD. I don't think I will ever mess around with G-sync or Free-sync, I have a GTX1070 if you are curious. Honestly, I recall there's a deal like $300 for a 27inch 144hz monitor a few days ago on newegg, but I missed it. Posted February 26, 2018 Both look comparable, both TN 1ms 1080p vesa TN 27" similar stands. The only real difference I see is the viewsonic has usb. Then again I didn't look at them real hard. I would look for further differences and choose based on brand reputation and price. Asus is great and so is viewsonic. As for the deal, it was probably some sort of a flash deal that isn't going on any more, you could search for "flash deals" and see if they have it there.
