I've been thinking about this as well but always thought nah it's too late already. Been proven wrong several times. But I also never had the budget to really do it. Now my pc is mining while I have to study. Guess a free coffee every 3 days can't hurt ^^

I'm against it, but I will say this.

 

So long as you currently own hardware capable of mining then why not? 

If you need better hardware then you really have to work out how long it will take you to recover the costs of both the hardware and the running costs.

Do you want to support a system where all people have to do is buy some hardware and sit back? It is such a backwards and roundabout way of going about free money.

Mining bitcoin: no

Mining other coins to get bitcoin: maybe

Or just mine other coins directly.

 

Returns on a single 1060 are not going to be much, but still possible to get an overall gain after electricity costs, depending on your local situation. I'm not sure it would be worth the effort of setting up.

all depends on your energy cost. can't say I recommend nicehash but they have an ok profitability calculator.

Bitcoin? No. Alt coins? Maybe. Depends on your power cpsts compared to how much your pc or rig can make in a month. Just please do not use nicehash. They are a scourge on newer coins and completely wreck the difficulty and profitability of them.
