core 2 duo

hi I have a core 2 duo and an ancient GPU

what GPU would be a good match on a budget that can game at 1080p and 60 fps (2560x1080)

and what would be a good upgrade

If you really need to keep using this platform, upgrade to a Q6600 for 10-15€, maybe get some cheap DDR2.

This is an ultrawide resolution. Do you really have an ultrawide monitor or are you talking about 1920x1080?

Now to your question:

It depends on the games you want to play. CS:GO and MC will run on many GPUs at 1080p60 but in more demanding games every Core 2 Duo/Quad CPU will prevent you from getting a stable 1080p60.

yes I have an ultra wide the LG 25um58

so let's say I get a  Q6600 what GPU is a good all-rounder, for example, I can play cs:go on higher settings but can still play more demanding games at lower settings

60fps at that resolution is not possible since it will be bottlenecked by the Core 2 Duo

Get a 1050ti and call it a day. Your Core 2 Duo willbottleneck, get a Q6600 if possible.

Seems like a bad choice. How long will you use this crappy CPU?

Because if you upgrade in a few month or next year than this  GPU will be your problem.

A few months ago I would have agreed with you but unfortunately I can't now. The LGA 775 platform is about 10 years old at this point and would be pointless upgrading on a platform that old, you can find a pre-built on Ebay that has an i5 2500 that is so much faster and I've seen builds like that go for around $90 (USD).

Agreed. LGA 775 is actually 12 years old now.

You'd be much more capable of 60fps with a newer, but used processor. An i5 in the 2000-3000 series would be good, and then get a 1050Ti or a used 750Ti. You can buy the 750Ti on eBay for 50 to 60 dollars.

If you really want to stay on this platform, even a 1050 will be bottlenecked...

Maybe a cheap 2 GB GT 640 like this one for $35 would be... okay. May not even be an upgrade depending on what your current video card is.

Get a core 2 quad q9650 nd get a decent cooler like hyper 212 Evo or cryorig h5 nd overclock this CPU a bit.

For GPU, go in used market nd search for an used GTX 780 or 960 or 970... They'll cost around $150-200 and will give u excellent price to performance.

Resolution has jack all to do with what CPU you have. It's 100% gpu dependent.

Have you heard of CPU bottleneck? Also I am Jack.

Yes, and that has nothing to do with resolution.

At higher resolution there will be less bottleneck since it will put more load on a CPU

I want to clearly state that a Core 2 Duo will bottleneck that GPU. Stop nitpicking on stuff you think is relevant.

This is the opposite of your original comment.

Never mind I though you said GPU. This is still wrong. Higher resolution will not effect your CPU in anyway.

If you run a 1050 at 4k I guarantee you the GPU will be the bottle neck

Core 2 Quad can still run games at 35fps at normal 1080p on 1050ti.

I suggest you upgrade to 2600k to get 60fps.

Ultrawide 1080p would need twice the vram of a normal 1080p.

So vram would be an issue, normal 1080p would need 3-4gb of vram.
