Hey guys I would like to start Litecoin mining and I'm wondering about which wallet is the best. I hesitate between downloading the wallet available from litecoin.org or use the online wallet on btc-e... I don't know much about litecoin right now so thanks for taking the time to reply to this very basic question!

never leave your coins on the exchange site. if something happens you will lose them.

Keep them in your wallet(s), make sure you make backups

If you HDD dies then you lose all your coins but if you use an exchange, it is saved across multiple servers for safety and it is easier to trade when you want to since it is on an exchange already.

Interesting. Is it safe to keep a large amount of litecoins on btc-e? I mean, can't hackers breach the encryption of the website and steal my litecoins? I plan on keeping most of what I will have mined, as the ltc value is likely to increase in the future.

You can set a Google Authenticator on your account which is awesome and safe. So you don't have to worry.

Ideally, you're going to want to make periodic backups. Have at least 2 cheap flash drives laying around so you can have a couple of copies just in case. A few weeks ago I've read a story on the forums where some guy lost his wallet because of some HDD issue or something (or was the HDD accidently reformated/given away..something like that) and this was filled with many Bitcoins he had mined back when they were worthless. You could only imagine the anger.
