i started putting together parts for a pc for my grandma and i picked up a ryzen 3 1200 before the apus were announced. i might just sell it and use the money to get the one with integrated graphics but if i didnt, what gpu should i put in. it doesnt need to be able to do any sort of high intensity gaming, just to put out the display and watch videos, maybe some very light, low intensity gaming

Sell it and buy the APU. If that's not in the picture, a 710 or HD 6450/R5 230 would be your best options.

And don't even think about buying a brand new card at that performance level. Go used, my friend.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Just sell the CPU and get an APU (assuming the mobo has display outputs). Ryzen 3 2200G is already more than what she needs.

The cheapest of the cheapest cards with video output is what you need, if you decide to keep the R3 1200

You might as well get an APU and sell your Ryzen 3 1200. The R3 2200G is $99 USD and is all that your grandma would need for the workload she requires. To be honest, the ryzen 3 2200G is good value for money considering your getting a very capable integrated GPU for its price. You could also get a dedicated GPU for her system, but it will increase the price of your build and it simply itsnt worth it considering your grandma has a very basic workload.

OP I'd just get the APU...

you know the apu is better or on par with the 1030 right?

but the APU is cheaper; he can probably sell the current CPU and install the APU for nearly no price delta.

If you'd read my first comment, the first reaction to this post, you could see that I already came to this conclusion
