So I have been playing battlefield 1 and star citizen. Firstly, I know that star citizen netcode is crap hence lower fps. I also know that the better processor for that game...the better.

Secondly, I have a 60hz monitor...in order for BF1 to stay above 60fps I need to have a mix of med-high settings....mostly med. I average 70fps with dips to lower 50s...my cpu(i5 3570) is literally maxed out 95-100% and gpu usage sits a lot lower.

I can get a i7 3770s for $100. Would an upgrade to that particular processor be enough to get better performance in both games?

Also, during gaming...what frequency would the cpu utilize with all 8 threads in use. With the i5...it will sit at 3.6Ghz all 4 threads...would the 3770s do the same, or would its full throttle frequence be lower because it is a S tier processor?

Thanks for the responses and plz for the love of everybody...do not suggest I upgrade to another platform.

It should perform very similar to a normal 3770, difference is lower TDP and lower base clock, but the boost clock is the same so performance should be very similar.

The upgrade would help, that's for sure.

It's technically faster , I don't know it's 100$ worth faster that's up to you.

If I can sell my current cpu for $50...then I can get i7 for $50. I imagine then it would be worth it. I'm just not sure if the extra threads would actually improve much...I know that games enjoy the boost of fast single core performance vs number of threads? Am I off-base?

These days it depends, some games like more threads, some like more single-core performance. But the boost clock is higher on the 3770s so in theory it should improve performance regardless what the game prefers :P

Depends on the game really.

From what i'm seeing the speed difference between the two cpu's is almost not worth the time let alone money.  but if you wanna go for it you can maybe it'll help maybe it wont

What card? Also are you fine with locking the frames?

A 3770k isn't really great at bf1, so idk if you'd wonna waste the time.

Yeah...that is why I was asking...I was kinda hoping that someone would so that hyper threading would fix the issue, but I knew in the back of my mind that it would not fix it. Oh well...I get avg more than 60fps at med settings...so I can't really complain, which is very playable. I guess I will save for a new platform 1-2 generations down the line. :)

Well when I playbf1, the cpu is pegged at 100% the entire time. But the gpu usage never moves, constant 100% there too. Ultra on 1080p average 90 frames or so.

Actually have more issues with my 4790k on 1440p with a gtx 1080.

I can put my cpu on stock which turbo's to 3.9 and play a bit and let you know how it goes.

If you can do that...it would be appreciated. I have a i3 3200 and a my current cpu that I would sell to subsidize the purchase. Also, can you let me know what the turbo frequency settles at when all threads are working 100%? would it be 3.7Ghz???

Are you sure about that...I can get the 3770s for cheaper and easier with no shipping and i do believe that the only difference is base clock and tdp? They both should boost the same. Unless I am wrong. That is why I am interested in what the cpu boosts to.

Please correct me if I am missing something.

It Turbo's to 3.7Ghz ALL DAY LONG (Edited/Correcting Myself - The 3770 non-S is what I mean)

I had a Optiplex 9010, even pushing up to 85-90*c with its stupid blower CPU cooler, but it stays rock solid at 3.7Ghz on all threads being tapped.

(Encoding/AC-Syndicate/8Thread Titles) it works great!

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5ofzFlQXfuFEXJINN914cgz93B4qquk-

Playlist of Such a machine, with Afterburners OSD in every video showing live clockspeeds + various info you need.

Beast PC

8 Threads TOTALLY makes a difference when your IPC bound and the software can mitigate threads to have better CPU utilization with lower usages total and same if not usually better performance. 3770 is not trash,... only when comparing to modern CPU's WITH GTX 1070 or above,..it may seem so.
Until YOUR at that point,... it's ample for ANY SINGLE GAME right now.

So many times I see 90-100% on 4 threads when gaming on modern titles, 60-90% of the 8 threads, same performance ir not better, less overall heat and for me thats Win Win.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

In my opinion, I would go for it. 3770S should have a good improvement. I wouldn't bother with a platform upgrade either with how expensive DDR4 is right now.

I went from a 2500K (4.6GHz) to a 2700K (4.9 GHz) for $130 last year and it was well worth it.

As someone who upgraded from a 2500K to 3770K, I would say go for it. Those extra 4 threads are going to help a lot in BF1. Since you can sell your current CPU for $50, a $50 upgrade for an i5 to i7 upgrade is well worth it, and would largely alleviate any CPU bottlenecks you may have with your RX580.
