There have been a couple threads like this before but, TL:DR most people use Defender and Malwarebytes or Kaspersky if I remember the name correctly.

Also, common sense is a great thing to have when browsing the internet.

Make sure to quote or tag people, so they get notified.

Windows Defender. Why use bloatware what some call 3rd party anti-virus.

Windows Defender + Malwarebytes or Avast (with most of the components not installed) + Malwarebytes.

Avast is pretty good and it's better than windows defender.

Because defender is not the best... it's decent and it's probably enough if you're careful, but why risk it when there are free alternatives? Avast, bitdefender and others aren't much heavier to run anyway.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

I won't argue with that. But I doubt that any of us here visit shady sites so much that we need constant online protection.

I myself have been running Defender for years now and never caught anything. The way I check to be 100% certain is actually by downloading few of those as trial versions and running multiple scans once a year or so.

I use Kaspersky. There was a pole the other day on LTT. Windows Defender was first and Kaspersky was second i think.

Not having a antivirus is dodgy. "I don't need antivirus I've never had problems" is like "i don't wear a helmet i ride safe". Its not down to your competence, it just makes sense.

No offence to those who don't use one of course, but get one quick because the boogie man is coming for you!

If free AV... then when running windows 10 the built in defender, then use SRWare Iron as Browser add Adblock (not plus), UBlock, and Disconnect as addons. Then download a little "Common Sense" and you should be good to go.

If you torrent/download from sketchy sources use the following:

Bitdefender free for Anti Virus and Malwarebytes for Malware.

Otherwise use Windows defender and Malwarebytes.

Avast has to much Ad pop ups an its annoying voice will drive you mad.

Hope that helps.
