Okay, good luck trying to get that thing to work with your DIY laptop. They're all proprietary form factors, so unless you managed to get one that's customized for your specific laptop, you can't just go out and buy something random. MXM has 3 types, Type I, II, III. They're either compatible or not compatible with each other or the type of MXM slot that's on the motherboard. MXM has been out since 2008, it's still non user friendly today, as it was back 10 years ago.

Each MXM card is proprietary. What that means is, if you have a MSI laptop, you can only get MXM cards made specifically for your MSI laptop. You cannot just go out and buy any MXM card to make it work for MSI laptop because it will not work. And all of those laptop from your guide in that other forum aren't DIY laptops, they're prebuilt so of course it will be easy to find a MXM card for them, since these MXM modules are consider as spare parts. Asus made a DIY laptop back then with a MXM slot, I doubt any of these cards will work with it.

that's not correct. check that guide

there are many upgraded laptops by msi, by alienware, by hp or by dell not only clevos

edit: eurocom or msi cards are used in some alienware, some dell, some msi, some hp. so you don't know what are you talking about

Asus cards are proprietary but that OEM is famous for that stupud policy so that's not a correct example

you don't know what are you talking about. mxm 3.0b is a Nvidia standard.

you need a dremel if you would use a msi gtx1070 because it is a mxm 3.1 card not mxm 3.0b

If you own a laptop with a mxm 3.0b card than you need only a mxm 3.0b card, a unlocked bios, a compatible vbios and you can upgrade that. vendors have these bios/vbios

Manufacture don't need to follow Nvidia's whatever MXM standards. This is why you need to get specific brand of MXM cards for a specific brand of laptop, such as if you have a MSI laptop, you will need to get a MSI specific MXM card.

BTW, MXM 3.0B and MXM 3.1 are exactly the same dimensions, 105MM x 82MM. If both are the same dimensions, then why does that user with a Alienware laptop have to use a dremel tool, in order to make that MXM card made specifically for MSI, work in his Alienware laptop.

you can use a msi gtx1070 in a clevo p870dm, a eurocom gtx1060 in a msi gt70, a clevo gtx980m in a msi gt60 so you are totally liar

this is what I order instead from AVA Clevo P750TM1-G it has everyrthing I want. The new cpu i7 8700 + 15" 1080p @ 120hz with gtx 1070 and plenty of space for storage options. would I be able to upgrade the gpu on this thing in the future?

that model have a mxm gpu so yes that should be upgradeable in future.
