New build for friend

Hey guys, my buddy wants to build a gaming pc and wanted to run the pc partpicker list by you guys to see if I should change out anything, or if there is anything better to choose that's easier on the wallet.

My first advice is not to use the PC Part Picker as its limited to what u can choose compared to whats available on the market at the time.

The 7600k is on the older side of things right now, he might want to check out the Ryzen 1600 (or upcoming 2600), or the i5 8400.

If he gets an R5 1600 he also saves money on not needing a cooler (a really good one comes stock with it).

The spec-04 isn't great for cable management, and I'd honestly recommend something other than that, but I can understand the appeal, especially at that price point.

He may find himself needing a fair bit more storage capacity than 500GB, but that is dependent on how many games he'll have installed at any given time, etc. Ideally if he wants an SSD he could look at a 250GB ssd and a 500GB HDD.

That power supply is a lot more than he needs, he'd be fine with 500-550W of power.

 

Other than that, no incompatibilities or problems, just alternatives that might be easier on his wallet and improve performance, etc.

Ya he liked the corsair case because its tempered glass and its hard to beat that price. Might go with that nzxt elite case. He has a 2TB HDD already. I'm not familiar with the new amd cpu's and havent't done any research on the new stuff coming out. I understand that psu is a bit overkill for a 1060 but I don't like to skimp out on PSU, do you have anything that's a bit cheaper without sacrificing quality?

It works, just not for GPUs at the moment. Just add it as a custom part.

That's great. 250GB will be fine, if a little tight. He should be able to fit about 3-5 average sized AAA titles on there.

Check out the tier list in my signature. Anything in the top three tiers will be fine. However given that the cable management is a bit iffy in that case, he might consider going for a semi or fully modular PSU.
