What's the performance of a GTX 770?

CoolMarquis97

How well does a GTX 770 perform when running games at Ultra? Is it a good graphics card worth the money? The games I play the most are probably BF4, the Witcher 2, Fallout 3, and Skyrim. The card is about $350 so it's got to be a beast right?

The same as 680

A little better.

At 1080p, a GTX 770 will be able to max those games. However, if you're running Skyrim with some crazy mods (Like me) you may run into problems with VRAM usage. Modded Skyrim is one of the few games that will use more than 2GB VRAM at 1080p.

Get the 4gb version so you can sli and semi future proof and mod like crazy, two 4gb 770s stock clocked out preform the 780ti by about 10-20 fps and costs about the same.

Nope, nope nope.

The extra 2GB wont help at all because the bus (256bit) is just too small, you may get 2.5 as opposed to 2, which will quite literally only help for a very select few games and it isn't worth the extra cash.

Also you can SLI the 2GB version perfectly well, if you aren't going to switch to a higher res any time soon I'd even recommend it.

And if you do have the money to SLI 2 of these guys in 4GB config, please god rather get a better (780, 290, 780ti) gpu in single-gpu configuration.

As far as performance, I love my 770, runs all those games at ultra quite easily. With ENB's and such on skyrim my FPS does sometimes dip to sub 40 (around 30-35ish), but it really depends on your mods.

BF4 plays phenomenally well, so does TW2 (installed it this week!)

I'll be staying on 1080p for at least until 4k is cheap which is yearsssss away. I can only afford 1 770 right now but I assume thats fine. If I'm able to afford another 770 later on down the line would the 770 sli performance be worth the cost?

Absolutely, its a great deal.

It's certainly more than enough for most modern 1080P games, SLI is a great option for later down the line (I'll be purchasing another one sometime in the next year), its an excellent card.

I think youve been missinformed my single 770 in a memory leak has used 3.3gbs by itself when you sli two of them it evens the flow and allows for the full 4gb to be used but it doesnt make it a 512bit bus width it will probably use 3.8 gbs but i mean you really cant tell if nothing will most likely ever in the coming few years use all 4gbs on the cards. But i am begining to see games use quite a bit of memory up to 2.6gb in arma 3 and the 290,780,780ti cards are not better in fact two 770s will usually get 10 to 20 fps over the 780ti, and most all games support multicards pretty good and costs about the same as a 780ti with more vram (if 4gb) and better preformance. I myself am just about to put in my second 770 4gb into my machine in a few days and from what ive seen 770 sli is a quite a beastly way to go for the money.

I believe your name speaks for your post ;)

I have never head of a 770 using more than 2.8gb's of its VRAM- because it simply cant.

Secondly, I agree that most games for the forseeable future won't need more than 2GB's of VRAM at 1080p; common knowledge.

Yes 770 SLI is a beast for the money, yes if its cheaper than the 780ti in your country by a large margin its a better deal, however,

In most country's its marginally more expensive and it makes much more sense to get one card instead of two.

Any builder worth his salt knows that single-card solutions are better than the equivalent dual one every time, 10 times out of 10.

770 SLI is great, but paying an extra $50-80 for the 2GB of VRAM you cant even utilize is worthless.

Look mate, I love my 770, and I love Nvidia. But you have to understand this stuff is numbers; facts

Fanboyism can't clout your judgement.

I've had the GTX 770 Lightning (2GB version) since pretty much the official launch date for that card and I can assure you that is indeed a total beast. Considering the fact that I have a pretty bad overclocking card I still managed to get 1340MHz on the core and 2000MHz on the memory, which is pretty sweet. At those clock speeds this card is way faster than any other HD 7970 or R9 280X. In benchmarks like 3DMark Vantage my card scores on par with the GTX 780.

Gaming wise, I played BF4 at Ultra settings with AA and had around 80-90FPS, which is kind of odd since MSI Afterburner showed 2.35GB VRAM being used, but what the hell, it works right? MetroLL at Ultra settings with AA is around 35-40FPS; Skyrim (no mods) at Ultra settings is around 70-85FPS; GTA IV at Ultra settings is around 55-70FPS (it's a pretty badly optimized game); Crysis 3 at Ultra settings is around 35FPS.

Benchmarks:

Unigine Valley Extreme Preset 1080p: scores usually around 2245-2250

3DMark Vantage: scores over P41000

3DMark FireStrike: X4180
