You must be really abusing your apple earbuds. I have had mine since winter of 2016 when I got my first iPhone, the 5s and I'm still using them. I've dropped them gotten them tugged, and done running with them and their still fine, their actually the most durable audio equipment I have ever had. Perhaps maybe consider some of the newer wireless, or a single wire going between the two earbuds headphones (both works using Bluetooth) so you don't have to deal with the wire fraying away.

Both of these headphones have the apple style you look too them.

One with wires between:https://www.amazon.com/ZONEPAN-Bluetooth-Headphones-Sweatproof-performance/dp/B078JDKNFP/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1516763027&sr=8-30&keywords=bluetooth+earphones

One that has just the earbuds no wires: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Wireless-headphone-Earpiece-Earphone/dp/B078RZH5VK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1516762861&sr=8-4&keywords=bluetooth+earphones

So recently my apple earbuds broke, and this has been constantly happening to me. Either the cables fray, or they just stop working. Apple doesn't know whats wrong and they won't send me a replacement without charging me and I am just sick of paying over and over for earbuds that are going to break. However, I absolutely hate in ear earphones that have the ear pads. They either hurt my ears or they do not fit in my ears comfortably. They are an absolute nuisance and I have even gotten custom ear pads and I did not like them. The apple style earbud with no ear pads are the most comfortable for me. If anyone can suggest a good alternative that is under 25 bucks it would be much appreciated.

Edit: After browsing the web I think this article describes my problem perfectly http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/technology/2014/07/earbuds_that_won_t_fall_out_testing_earhero_yurbuds_stayhear_tips_and_more.html

Yes I have tried foam earbuds, they constantly slip out of my ears and they are extremely irritating as well. :(

It sounds more like you're just getting the wrong size.

I think Panasonic makes some nice headphones that just rest in your ears. I haven't used headphones that cheap in over a decade so I can't be any more helpful than that *shrug*

I usually dump the stock ear tips and buy Comply foam ear tips as I find these seal more securely than regular silicon types. My ears don't hurt like when I use stock ear tips, even on my cheap ChiFi IEM's, I'd use Comply's......I don't jog with IEM's on (in fact, I don't jog at all) but during my regular train commute and just walking around outside, these ear tips have never slipped out nor do that hurt my ears.

59bc7437dfe8c_myiems.jpg.b32ef3c3f3a43bc1eb39ddd1dd477757.jpg

In the above pic, my regularly used ChiFi IEM's (left, two in foreground) have been fitted with Comply's, the black one's fitted with Isolator series whilst the white/grey one's been fitted with the Comfort series, I find myself preferring the Comfort series. Though you can't see them, the ear tips on my Audeze iSine10 has been replaced by Comply's too. Those with silicon tips are hardly used by me....

I usually squish the foam tips before inserting into my ears, they expand within and firmly fit my ears......I now do not bother with any stock silicon tips that come with whichever IEM I buy, I'd buy a set of Comply's while I was at it.
