low performance with ryzen 5 in CSGO

dotz

There's probably a million other posts like this but I just can't find a solution online, so here I am.

System Specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64bit

CPU: Ryzen 5 1400 ----- *overclocked to 3.5GHz

GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 3GB GAMING ACX 2.0

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 1x8GB DDR4 2400MHz ----- *overclocked to 2666MHz

MOBO: BIOSTAR Z270GTN *EDIT* X370GTN

PSU: Silverstone SX-500LG

SSD: Adata SP900 480GB

I'd say this is a pretty current gen and mid range system, so it should crush csgo at 1080p-high settings. Other people I've seen online with very similar specs run above 180fps even without the overclock, yet I can barely manage around 100-120. This seems to be a CPU bottleneck because I get much lower fps in deathwatches where presumably player spawns overwhelm my CPU, which shouldn't even happen with a ryzen 1400. I have a damn near brand new install of windows, and I have tried all the fixes people post online, unparking CPU cores, deleting config file, changing launch options, changing windows power settings, etc... I really can't tell what's wrong, somebody please help me...:(

Use some form of hardware monitor, like afterburner, and see what your GPU vs CPU utilisation is during gaming.
If your cpu is pegged at ~100%, while your gpu is at 60% (or whatever) then you can confirm your cpu is the bottleneck. otherwise it may just be down to settings

That's impossible I'm afraid ;) Ryzen chips don't work on Intel motherboards.

Like @Hugsy Malone mentioned, run some monitoring during gameplay. If the GPU is at or near 100% and your CPU isn't it's not a CPU bottleneck.

What is your CPU usage when playing?

Isnt that RAM Dual Channel? (You need 2 sticks to run at desired speed)

What was the performance like before the overclock?

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

His motherboard is most likely the X370GTN mini-itx by Biostar.

Anyway, is multi-core rendering enabled in CSGO settings?

How much CPU and GPU usage do you get?

I get 100% GPU usage at ~300 fps with lowish settings in CSGO, and the 1060 3GB is slightly worse than what I have, so consider lowering some graphics if the GPU is maxed out.

check to see if multicore rendering is enabled in settings. If it doesn't fix the problem, reinstall. I used to only get 120fps (i5 7300 & 1060 6gb) until i reinstalled the game. Now on most maps i get 160-200 fps

I usually get 200 fps on my system with an r9 270x 4gb and ryzen 1700x. It seems a bit low compared to all the other cards here.

Thanks for all the replies y'all, happy to see how many people on the internet are here to help.

Anyways, let me address all the responses:

1. yes I got that motherboard name wrong (somehow)

2. I'm running single channel RAM

3. I think the performance was slightly worse before the overclock, can't be sure...

4. Multicore rendering is enable, and I'll try to reinstall csgo if all else fails.

5. Here are the numbers of a bunch of benchmarks I just ran:

Cinebench score: 679cb

CS:GO 1080p-highest settings: min:56 max:170 average:103.750 *quite a lot of stuttering when respawning or turning

CS:GO 1080p-lowest settings: min:93 max:198 average:136.491 *there's less stuttering, but still some.

Unigine Heaven 1080p-High-DX9: min:9 max:225 average:101 Score:2546 *occasional bad stuttering

CPU usage in CS:GO: 55-65%

GPU usage in CS:GO: 30-40%

CPU usage in Unigine: 20-45%

GPU usage in Unigine: 100%

Interesting results I suppose... Also, it takes about 10-12 seconds to get back in csgo after I alt-tab, which I'm pretty sure is longer than on my old PC.

Yes, it's ded af bruh.

Cinebench score checks out. CPU is fine performance wise. I think it's just a CS:GO issue. Many people are reporting reduced performance lately. I guess this is an issue Valve has to solve.

With those CPU and GPU numbers in CSGO while playing something seems wrong, are you sure you have the latest stable drivers installed?

Curisosity What maps in CS:GO where you playing when this occurred and the alt-tab thing I wouldn't worry about it I takes me nearly 30sec to tab back in with a Radeon r9 200 and a i3-4130 CPU. So I assumed that happened to anyone playing fullscreen.

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...

It takes me like 10 seconds to retab in, but it might be because im on an r9 270x and r7 1700x
