Which GPU?

Prokart2000

Hi guys

So I have decided to save for a new gpu but im torn at what to do giving the market in its current state. Budget will be around £300 on the top end but im not sure what to buy.

I was thinking rx 580/1060 but then the mining craze begun, I was then thinking something along the lines of a 980ti but i was thinking that a used card could break at any time without any warranty or it could have been abused in a mining rig.

This leaves me with not many options for GPUs.

Then again volta is rumoured to come out in Q2 so I could save up and buy a "1170" if thats what it will be called.

What would you suggest I do?

Many Thanks

Pro

My Setup :P

Since you still have a usable GPU, just wait. Anything you buy now is just not worth it for gaming...

For right now, I would wait. The cryptocurrency craze has the GPU market all messed up, and prices are really high. Hopefully, with the fact that bitcoin is in free-fall, GPU prices will go back to normal.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

I'd say wait and save up. Maybe you'll be able to buy the 80 tier by the time the next gen comes out.

Thanks for the feedback, I wouldn't mind waiting but i have no idea how long i will have to wait due to little competition from AMD.

Nope only thing that I've seen was an expected release for early 2018 but im going to say that they usually launch around April or May so spring time. But we all know Huang is the people's champ and he's probably seeing the struggles rn he'll release it sooner than expected with billions of supply and lower prices my man Huang i can see it now.
