Razer does not sell replacement parts to their users, including batteries.

Addyct

The battery on my Razer Blade (Late 2016) began to bulge a couple months ago. I did not realize it until a week ago, when I noticed that the slight raise in the trackpad that I had noticed back then had gotten worse, and after searching, realized I was not the first person to have this issue. I contacted Razer and was told that my laptop was out of warranty. I have since found out (and been told by support, which you can see in the attached images) that Razer refuses to sell replacement parts to their users. Even a battery. I have already removed the battery using my iFixit toolkit, another product that I purchased partially on recommendation from Linus Tech Tips, like the Blade.

First, if someone out there has experience with a replacement "Betty4" battery for this laptop that is for sale, I would greatly appreciate it. Most of the links I've found seem shady.

Secondly, knowing the audience that LTT has actively cultivated, should Linus continue to recommend these Razer laptops that run completely against the ethos that advertisers like IFixIt are flocking to?

Well, razer is known for crappy products and poor customer support. It's no surprise they do stuff like this. It sucks i understand but let this be a valuable lesson, stay away from razer like most of us here.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

sadly this is what a lot of manufacturers do these days, apple is especially notorious for this. Try searching for a battery that has the same specifications as yours in terms of output and re solder the old connector to the battery if you have to. That's about all i can do for you.

I'm not terribly surprised. Even if you still had warranty coverage, battery issues usually aren't covered anyway. You should be fine just grabbing a battery from eBay, just get one that has a decent rating. I bought one for my Samsung and it's worked flawlessly. It's nothing special, either. Just a $28 battery.

You were a little erroneous stating that they don't offer repair options. They clearly do, you're just not willing to pay for it. While the $130 might seem steep, that also includes the return shipping to you. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new device. Just grab a battery from a third party. It's not like Razer's batteries are made with anything special.

I've not problem with the support staff I talked to. It's not their fault, and I'd rather not throw any abuse at them.

  • 1 year later...

I just ran into the same thing on my 2018 base model Razer Blade 15.  I have a fan assembly that is failing, and simply asked to purchase the replacement fans.  The repair work will take all of 5 minutes.  Razer support is repairing it under warranty, but I still have to send my laptop in to have it done.  Frustrating considering that I can easily do the work myself, and they would have made money off of selling the parts vs. comping the repair work.

We'll see how this goes...
