Vcore Higher Than Set In Bios?

Unwyt

Hello, i have my i5 6600k overclocked to 4.4ghz @ 1.2v and under load the vcore will jump.It fluctuates between 1.2 - 1.280 it fluctuates. Is this a problem? If so how can it be addressed?

it runs stable with good temps under stress.

Do you have any settings with an auto setting in the voltage section, or an offset enabled?

(btw those voltage values won't hurt anything but they are not normal per say)

Hmm the only thing I can think of is that your motherboard has some sort of background setting when overclocked that prevents the cpu from power starving, but it should only enable something like that if you used an auto overclocking feature I would assume.

Overall it should not be an issue as the 6600k is fine up to 1.45V for full time use, so long as the temp remain fine and system is stable I'd would not worry about it. Just monitor it for a while to make sure the voltage doesn't start creeping up above 1.3

But I'm not sure why it is doing it.

load line calibration?

Yep that would do it, but it means your OC might need a boost on voltage, however I'd just keep it on if it's working as that can be a useful setting (I don't have it on my motherboard and completely forgot it existed)

A simple description from google

Quote

LLC, short for Load-Line Calibration, applies additional voltage to the CPU to ensure a more stable vCore under load and minimize the gap between CPU voltage in idle and load.

You could try dabbling in offset voltages, as that allows for the cpu to run at the desired voltage with a cutoff point, it reduces idle temps and limits the voltage given to the cpu when idle to reduce strain (however it is more difficult to set, I've done it to undervolt my cpu but it can be confusing to a newbie)
