If I upgraded my Case.. [Potential noob question]

VillaiNPC

Would I have to take everything apart or is it possible to keep all the cables attached but just unscrew certain parts and then screw them back in the new case. (I know it might sound stupid lmao)

while it would be possible to not unplug anything, this is not recommended. this is because all the connectors are very fragile, and if you accidentally pull a cable you could tear a connector off.

Definitely a noob question but learning is what it's all about! Yes, you basically have to take everything apart. You could get away with keeping the cpu cooler and ram attached to the motherboard but pretty much everything else has to be taken out part by part.

Take everything apart. Just remember which sata ports your drives went into and everything should be fine.

Take photos if you are worried.

you could, but you shouldn't

if you're new to building just grab a paper and draw or write where each cable goes

you can keep the motherboard, CPU, RAM and cooler together, and technically also the GPU i guess? but you would have to re run most of your cables in the new case, its not especially hard and most of them you cant mess up. you can also always check on the web if you are worried about any of them and for front panel connections its usiually written on the motherboard but if not, or if the markings are bad you can always look in the motherboards manual :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

You could damage the PCIE slot if you leave the GPU in. The rest is fine though.

yah there is definatly the change, and its extremely easy to take out and put back in i just mentioned it because you can. i doubt you are ripping that PCIe slot off though seeing as even the normal ones can take quite a beating but i wouldnt recomend doing it unless you HAVE to
