Freezing and crashing during gaming

My pc will freeze and crash every so often after prolonged gaming periods. Im just curious as to what the likely cause of this problem is.

 

the pc shows no signs of throttleing etc. i will just be gaming then all of a sudden it will just crash resulting in a frozen screen and repetative sound.

What games are you talking about? I usually have the same issues with games running on the source / goldsource engine

its happened in fortnight, forza horizon, fifa 17 is what i can remember playing and crashing so far
