The fastest storage ever?

i have a thought.. i was thinking about some kind of "super" suloution for ultra fast performance.

is it possible to make diferent caches in layers of diferent caches?
kind of like:
1: 16gig RAM Drive cache.
2: 120gig kingston hyper X SSD cache.
3: 4tb Segate Hybrid SSHD.

and then partition it so i get a 240 gig C drive and the rest as a D drive?

in theory this should offer upp stupid fast performance in both the C and D partitions.
is this possible and if so.. is it awsome or just stupid?

Not sure how latency feels about this :P but just a ram-drive would be the fastes because you are now just caching hdd's which can never be as fast as just ram/ssd.

Ramdisks are e-peen mainly. Fast doesn't mean much if you can't store your data.

That's pretty much what ram does already?

 

Just set up a ssd Cache on a hdd and you'll be fine

No ram only read in what you are using at the moment.. not caching the C:drive

i was just thinking that the files most used would have a read spead of like 9000Megabyte per sec. but the files not often used would be read from the ssd or the SSHD.

Which is basically a temporary cache.

 

Ram storage loses all data as soon as you stop powering it, so making a cache out of it does nothing that using ram regularly wouldn't

hmm yes. but the data that is on the ram drive would be retreved with super fast speed.

something like "fancy cache" that linus mentioned in the end of this vid

Which is fine if you have a large amount of Ram that you are very regularly backing up to a storage drive, but there isn't a way to use a ramdisk as a drive cache as it would be almost pointless
